Brochis had been differentiated from Corydoras due to the higher number of dorsal fin rays however, Brochis has recently been suggested to be a synonym of Corydoras. prionotos have been reclassified into the genus Scleromystax. ![]() In 2006, 153 C-numbers had been assigned, of which 32 had been assigned appropriate scientific names. These species are given 'C-numbers', originally devised by Hans-Georg Evers for the German fishkeeping magazine DATZ in 1993. Several hundred species are not yet classified, but kept by aquarists. The type species for this genus is Corydoras geoffroy. difluviatilis is recognized as the basalmost species of Corydoradini, exhibiting several plesiomorphic features compared to the other species of Corydoras. It is the sole genus in the tribe Corydoradini. Corydoras is by far the largest genus of Neotropical fishes with more than 160 species. The name Corydoras is derived from the Greek kory (helmet) and doras (skin). Corydoras are small fish, ranging from 2.5 to 12 cm (1.0 to 4.7 in) in SL., and are protected from predators by their body armor and by their sharp, typically venomous spines. Species assigned to Corydoras display a broad diversity of body shapes and coloration. Corydoras species are distributed in South America where they can be found from the east of the Andes to the Atlantic coast, from Trinidad to the Río de la Plata drainage in northern Argentina. The species usually have more restricted areas of endemism than other callichthyids, but the area of distribution of the entire genus almost equals the area of distribution of the family, except for Panama where Corydoras is not present. I'm happy they're living their "best lives" but I'd prefer they were active during the day.Corydoras is a genus of freshwater catfish in the family Callichthyidae and subfamily Corydoradinae. Kind cloudy at the moment, but that sometimes happens after a good gravel cleaning. Water quality is good - nitrates had gotten up to maybe 40 a few weeks ago but are now back down to ~ 10. I've tried to exclusively feed in the morning or midday to encourage the hungrier ones out for the best food during the day. I have a dark substrate side and a light substrate side. There is a plastic hollow rock and some driftwood that they also like hiding in around the middle/closer to the other side. The papyrus roots are where they like hiding the most. The tank is a "Tall" 55 gallon, that has one side planted with a large papyrus and an airstone. They have six tetras and four kribs in the tank that are active during the day "for cover." ![]() They seem to be eating well, but again: primarily overnight. I know they're active at night because they start getting energetic and edging out at about 9 PM, and I often catch them with the flashlight during dark hours. Now, with few exceptions, all 9 corys hide all day and come out only at night. Those six also foraged during the day for about 2-3 days, then went nocturnal. I added another 6 of a "three stripe" variety, thinking that they would prefer to school. They spent about a day foraging, then worked into a nocturnal pattern. I bought three bronze (sold as "green cat") corys a couple months ago. ![]()
